Ring Checker Failure

You've most likely reached this page from a link by the ring manager about your site remaining in the ring queue and due to failure of the ringchecker program. The ring manager runs a program approximately monthly to verify the status of ring sites and queue sites. Sites are checked for the proper ring HTML and links based on the exact web page URL (domain and address) you registered. If not found, the site is sent to the queue and will not be active and receive hits on the ring. New sites in the queue are also checked and good ones are moved to the ring. After this process, the sites remaining with problems are referred to this page for troubleshooting. Possible problems and fixes are listed below:

Ring HTML is not on page registered with the ring. - If you delete, rename, or move a page, the ring checker cannot find it as registered. Either re-create the page, change your registration to the page where the ring HTML does exist, or remove your site from the ring if you no longer have a site or want to remain in the ring. If you recently moved your site, started using a different domain name, or have forwarded your site/domain to a new location, you must change the registration to the new URL. If your site uses frames, the ring HTML must be on a page loaded in the initial frameset. If not, you must change the registration either to the page where it is located, or create an alternate entry page for this ring with that page loaded. Sites using or adding Flash type intros may also time-out before reaching the page with the ring banner, and should be bypassed for purposes of ring entry. Change Your Registration

File Naming - On non-Windows servers (Linux/Unix), filename case can often be the problem, since filenames are case sensitive. Filname.htm, filename.htm, and FILENAME.HTM are all different names and can co-exist. It is also best NOT to use spaces in filenames for web URL's. File extensions can also sometimes make a difference such as file.htm, file.html, file.php, or file.asp.

Change Your Registration

Ring HTML is incorrect - Your site may have incorrect or incomplete HTML. The page must contain the banner, the link to the ring home page, and links for ring navigation such as next site, previous site, etc. If any of these are missing, you will not be moved to the active ring. If the links are either incomplete or incorrect, you can fix them or re-download the HTML and banner to re-insert it on your page. You must upload the saved banner image to your site. You may not load it from the ring home page. Log in to your registration ID to download new HTML, or go here to get a graphic by right clicking your mouse and saving it. Graphics should be uploaded to your web host in the same directory as the page it is contained on. If place elsewhere such as an images folder, you will need to modify the HTML. Frontpage or other graphic HTML editors should also read the information on this site about pasting the code to your web pages.

Temporary Site Problems - Sometimes your web server may have been down or inaccessible during the check. If your registration and page are correct, this may be the case. Also sites that forward domain names to other services don't always work well, and may fail. Please advise for further help if you cannot fix the site by fixing your registration information or edit your pages to comply.
